Affnan's Aquaponics: Bug Attack !!!

Kailan being infested with caterpillar eggs, and some outbreak has occur as photos below.

Eggs spill over onto hydroton at few places.

Below new eggs and this Kailan leaves already 90% eaten.

The culprits, looks like it happened overnight something lay their eggs during the night. Next morning plenty everywhere.

These are fish food, I hand picked and feed them to Tilapia.

These Kailan are spared, not touch. It is located in between two growbed that affected. Could it be because its beside that Kesum herb on the left. I know plants like Merigold are good insect repellant, this plant could be one too.

I will need to try and plant this Kesum plant, at few places and see whether any effect on caterpillar or bugs. Till today these Kailan is untouched.

I am an Aquaponics Enthusiast from Malaysia. My involvement with Aquaponics started in early 2008 moving from water gardening, ornamental fish keeping and from necessities to keep plants alive in concrete jungle we live in.

Urban Agrostyle specializing in Media Based Flood & Drain Aquaponics using siphon, producing vegetables and fish for household use in the small space that I have. Ornamental Aquaponics is another area of aquaponics that I am looking at with working prototype that currently in use.

I did made some design improvement to the aquaponics siphon making it more reliable and as such that it is an "install and forget" item in the system.

This blog is about my daily activities in Aquaponics, trying new things, improving on old or just routine work that I do. It will also be some blunders that happens occasionally, so that it will be a lesson learned and not repeated.

I don't do Aquaponics on a commercial scale because it requires different level of expertise, settings and support equipment, therefore I will not reply any query on it.

Is that what it is.... looks like they had a mighty good feast overnight. Where on earth do they hide after that.. :(

Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture, which is growing fish and other aquatic animals, and hydroponics which is growing plants without soil. see aquaponics in pakistan for more information.
